THUNDERING BLURB » football ANDREW GARDA'S ENDLESS TAKES ON NFL AND COLLEGE FOOTBALL Fri, 22 Oct 2010 12:30:31 +0000 en hourly 1 ESPN Name Drops the Thundering Blurb! Thu, 21 Oct 2010 14:47:45 +0000 admin So for those of you who follow me on twitter, you probably know I had a twitter question mentioned on NFL Live yesterday. Unfortunately I was not near a TV when it happened and didn’t get a chance to record it later.

Luckily, super-awesome Twitter follower Paty had it and hooked me up with a still and a pair of videos.

So I’ve got video of Mark Schlereth’s response but won’t be able to do anything with it until I get home tonight. Until then, here’s the tweet as it appeared on the show.

Blurb has hit the big time!

The Thundering Blurb Football Show – 10/18 Tue, 19 Oct 2010 12:01:46 +0000 admin Very brief write-up today. Normally I do these right after the show, not the next morning at work, but the internet is down at the home office, so I could not do so, And at work – well there just isn’t quite enough time for a proper recap.

First things first, you can listen to the episode here - and I apologize for the sound quality. No internet means no skype, which means it was a cell phone show.

Here’s hoping this all gets worked out before the weekend.

Brief recap: We went over some injury notes, talked DET/NYG & NYJ/DEN, touched on some Pass Interference & Collision (head to head and otherwise), the BCS and the Big East.

I didn’t get a chance to talk much about it, in part because not having the internet meant lacking the correct info, but by now you must have heard about Rutgers DT Eric LeGrand who was injured during the Rutgers/Navy game Saturday.

LeGrand is paralyzed from the nexk down, which sort of brings home the whole ‘head to head’ and severe hit discussion going on right now. It’s a terrible situation and Rutgers has set up a website so folk can send get-well wishes to LeGrand.

Of course, my thoughts and prayers go out to Eric and his family.

As always, I thank you for listening.

Interview with Kevin McGuire of College Football Examiner Tue, 05 Oct 2010 16:24:27 +0000 admin Hey folks – if you listened to the Blurb show last night or follow me on Twitter or the site on Facebook, you know I did a little interview with Kevin McGuire of College Football Examiner on the state of the Big East, TCU rumors and a few overall college football topics as well.

Check it out here, along with a ton of other great interviews Kevin has done across the College Football Landscape. He’s also a fine writer, and you can catch his stuff over at as well.

Thanks to Kevin for having me on and quarterbacking a great conversation.

The Thundering Blurb Football Show – 9/27 Tue, 28 Sep 2010 03:51:38 +0000 admin Tonight’s show welcomed Melissa Jacobs of to the program at the halfway mark.

While you’re listening to me babble to start the program, be sure to check the site out and follow her on twitter as well.

Before Melissa comes by, I cover my thoughts on the dismal state of the Big East. It’s been a rough September for the conference and ended the same way – marquee matchups for West Virginia, Cincinnati and Rutgers all could have won some prestige for the conference. At least West Virginia and Cincy both held their own.

Pitt fell apart against the Miami Hurricanes. It was brutal and it will be reflected in my Big East rankings debuting this week over at

We go over some news and notes and segue into Melissa’s appearence.

Amongst other things we hit:

We hit up a few more topics and then wrap the show up with what Melissa has planned, which includes player interviews and more articles.

Thanks to my guest for coming by and to you for stopping by.

Brian Bassett of Breaks Down the Jets/Pats Fri, 17 Sep 2010 20:31:52 +0000 admin Was wandering around the internet, reading up on the upcoming football action when I headed over to The Jets Blog as I often do – being a fan of good content and of things Jets.

Lo and behold, editor Brian Basset had embedded a video of him breaking down the Jets upcoming game against the New England Patriots.

Should I have written ‘dreaded’ or ‘hated’? Can you be a Jets fan minus rhetoric?

Here it is – sadly Bri is only on the phone. But luckily the host dressed up for the occasion!

The Thundering Blurb Football Show – 8/16 Tue, 17 Aug 2010 03:06:22 +0000 admin Great show again last night – kicked off an hour early by opening the chat to give the Jets/Giants fans a place to gather and trash talk.

By the time the show was going, we were already rolling.

We covered a lot of ground including:

  • Nick Saban banning NFL Scouts from Alabama practices. In my opinion, a move that is ridiculous and punishing the wrong people for the inability of colleges to control their players. I also touch on my axe to grind with the ex-Miami coach due to the way he left the NFL.
  • Brian Westbrook got his new contract with the 49ers, which tells you that despite the amazing game by Anthony Dixon, Singletary is still unsure he can rely on the rookie.
  • Tim Tebow went back to the form we didn’t like in predraft workouts as soon as he was pressured. Work in progress folks, work in progress. Also, Tim should avoid leading with his head on rushing TDs.

We also talk about the sudden lack of RBs in Buffalo as well as the awful play of the team on Friday night, the season ending injury to Ben Tate and what it does to Arian Foster’s role as well as the re-emergence of BIG Mike Williams in Seattle.

All that and some Big East talk with the chatroom and more news and notes from around the NFL and some discussion of the Jets/Giants game.

Thanks for coming by, thanks for downloading and as always, thanks for allowing me to be a part of your football off-season.

The Thundering Blurb Football Show – 8/9 Tue, 10 Aug 2010 03:40:19 +0000 admin Last night’s show was a good one – we didn’t hit every topic I planned to, but we got some good discussion.

First, I want to again thank Aaron Nagler from CheeseheadTV for coming on to talk Packers during the second half of the show.

We cover his experience at camp, the offense, the defense and even Voldemort aka Brett Favre. Aaron was there when Favre’s retirement leaked so I wanted to hear how that went over in packers land. Some giggling, I’d suppose.

But we get Aaron’s in person take on Rodger’s struggles, Finley’s upside and some sneaky players to watch on the offense. He also gave us some good insight into the Packers D.

You can hear that insight all the time on the Cheesehead site or following him on twitter here.

Before Aaron drops his knowledge on us we cover the Beanie Wells injury which broke just before we went live (update, the team says he’s bruised but OK) and I give you my thoughts on the Darrelle Revis situation.

In brief – it’s ugly and I hate seeing both sides. I’d rather hate one or the other but I don’t. It’s business.

But there is much more on the show.

Thanks – as always – for letting me squawk at you for another hour. It looks like I might do 90 minutes or more on Mondays. Let me know what yo uthink of that at thunderingblurb (at)

And again, thanks to Aaron for coming by to talk some Green Bay football.
